Seniors / AARP
Kissimmee is an ideal destination for the young at heart, with an array of activities for seniors of every age and activity level. Whether you are an experienced group travel planner or planning your first senior or AARP group visit, the Kissimmee Convention & Visitors Bureau can help you select group itineraries, tours, transportation, accommodations, and activities specially geared to seniors. We can also help you get discounts on group events and provide guidance on any special needs group members may have, from specially-equipped transportation for the disabled to wheelchair rentals and equipment.
Kissimmee is blessed with abundant natural beauty, which your senior groups can experience in many different ways. You can plan a scenic boat tour through lakes or wetlands, where your group can watch for the unique flora and fauna of native Florida. For a more up-close view of nature, plan a day of bird watching (remind the group to bring binoculars and cameras). From the wetlands to the woodlands, Kissimmee is home to a large variety of colorful and exotic species, including ibis, hawks, falcons, grouse, quail, and heron. If they’re lucky, group members may spy a Snail Kite, Sand Hill Crane, or majestic American Bald Eagle. Kissimmee boasts the largest population of nesting bald eagles in the 48 contiguous United States, and was selected as a re-entry location for the nearly extinct Whooping Crane.
Back on land, plan a relaxing day for your group to stroll through Downtown Kissimmee or St. Cloud. They can admire lovely murals adorning several buildings, as well as the noted Kissimmee Sculpture Experience, over a dozen unique and colorful statues and figurines set right along the tree-lined streets.
To please the art lovers in your groups, plan a visit to the Morse Museum of American Art in nearby Winter Park. The Morse houses the largest collection of works by Louis Comfort Tiffany, known for the colorful lamps that bear his name, as well as exquisite jewelry, pottery, paintings, art glass, and leaded-glass windows — a treat for art lovers of any age. If your group includes theater lovers, buy group tickets to the Osceola Center for the Arts, where your seniors can enjoy a stirring live performance of high quality community theater.
The history buffs in your groups will enjoy taking a step back in time at the Osceola County Historical Society and Pioneer Museum. During their visit, they’ll experience what it was like to live in an authentic 1898 "Cracker House," shop for provisions in a 1900s general store, and work in a turn-of-the-century blacksmith shop and sugar cane mill.
After group members spend a full day of sightseeing and fun, plan an outing to at any of Kissimmee’s famed dinner shows. Themed dining entertainment got its start right here, and no place does it better.
